NEW ARRIVALS
Friday, June 27th
Indie / Pop / Rock / Punk
Be Your Own Pet "Get Damaged
EP " CD (XL)
Rounds up the three tracks deemed "too violent" to appear on
the band's recent domestic release of Get Awkward. Features the offending
"Becky," "Black Hole" and "Blow Yr Mind."
Dead Boys "Young Loud &
Snotty" CD (Bomp) Their 1st album. Own it.
Escovedo, Alejandro "Real
Animal" CD (Manhattan Records) His new LP. Produced by Tony Visconti
(T. Rex, Sparks).
Flamin Groovies "Now" CD
(DBK) First U.S. CD release for this long out-of-print classic. Their
1977 follow-up to "Shake Some Action". Mersey-Beat, Byrds
idolization taken to a newer and more permanent extreme. Produced by Dave
Edmunds, I think.
Hercules and Love Affair
"s/t" CD/2LP (Mute) Debut album from the electro outfit
led by Andrew Butler and featuring Antony (Antony & The Johnsons),
Nomi, and Kim Ann. Co-produced by Butler with Tim Goldsworthy of DFA.
I Was a Cub Scout "I Want You To
Know That There Is Always Hope" CD (XL) Their debut now available.
It Hugs Back "The Record
Room: First Four Singles" CD (Too Pure) UK combo with a EP of
their first 4 singles.
Joy Division / A Certain Ratio / Teardrop
Explodes / OMD "Live Leigh Rock Festival 1979" 2CD
(Interstate) A full set from each of these bands. Rare. Recommended.
Magnetic Fields
"Distortion" LP (Nonesuch) Vinyl now in stock.
Oxbow "Narcotic Story" LP
There's a definite Jesus Lizard vibe going on in this record, but Oxbow
is much stranger than that too. Thanks to leader Eugene Robinson's
bizarre delivery and conceptual approach. Now on red vinyl!
Reckless Kelly
"Bulletproof" CD (Yep Rock) Their new album of rootsy Texas
rock n' roll.
Regan, Fionn "End of
History" CD (Lost Highway) He keeps the frills to a minimum on
this dozen-song collection, getting his point across with little more
than voice, acoustic guitar and piano.
Sigur Ros "Med Sud I Eyrum Vid
Spilum Endalaust" CD (XL) With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly.
Sloan "Parallel Play" CD
(Yep Rock) 9th full length from this Canadian group, kind of a cross
between easygoing folk and '70s arena rock like they've been listening to
T. Rex and who can blame them?
Vampire Weekend "Oxford Comma
b/w Walcott (Insane Mix)" 7" (XL) Nice little waxy treat for
your turntable and ears.
Watson Twins "Fire Songs"
CD (Vanguard) You probably know them from their work with Jenny Lewis.
Identical Kentucky-born twins Chandra and Leigh Watson can't be easily
put in a musical pigeonhole, but they'll cop to folk, gospel, blues and
country as early influences.
Experimental / Composers
Bruhin, Anton "Vom
Goldabfischer" CD (Alga Marghen Italy) Some of the most outsider
bizarro-world compositions ever recorded, originally from 1969. This disc
is the original album and more comprised of avant folk songs for guitar
and vocals, sometimes invented instruments like a pvc tube with a reed on
one end, sometimes jew's harp.
Derbyshire, Delia
"Electrosonic" CD (Glo-Spot Records UK) Expensive import,
but worth it considering the scarcity of her music's availability. This
one's got library record written all over it, even including descriptions
as to what each track could possibly be used for in a film or commercial.
Delia was one of the key masterminds behind the BBC Radiophonic Workshop
and Doctor Who music, by the way.
MEV "Spacecraft / Unified
Patchwork Theory" CD (Alga Marghen Italy) More essential
reissues of this band's music now available again. This one's got Steve
Lacy playing soprano sax with them too!
Musica Elettronica Viva
"Friday" CD (Alga Marghen Italy) For the realization
of Friday, recorded in London in May 1969, MEV were Frederic Rzewski
(piano, electronics, etc.), Alvin Curran (flugelhorn, etc.), Richard
Teitelbaum (Moog synthesizer), Franco Cataldi (trombone, etc.), Gunther
Carius (saxophone, etc.).
Quartetto "Organic, Playco
1969" CD (Alga Marghen Italy) The stable 'Quartetto' that
pianist Davide Mosconi, saxophonist Enzo Gardenghi, percussionist Marco
Cristofolini, and cellist and violinist Gustavo Bonora brought to life
beginning in the late '60s constituted the core of what would, in the
early years of the next decade, become the larger improvising ensemble
NADMA.
Dilloway, Aaron & C. Spencer Yeh
"Squid" CD (Hanson) 2006 home recordings, featuring Yeh on
violin, Dilloway on tape loops of Yeh's Violin. Minimal and murky. Ltd.
ed. 500
Geesin, Ron "Electrosound"
LP (Glo-Spot Records UK) Ron Geesin is the guy who helped do a lot of the
strange backings for Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother, and also co-wrote
the soundtrack for The Body with Roger Waters. This highlights his later
less political synthi work. Very alien and beautiful short-ish
soundscapes.
Nadja "Desire in
Uneasiness" CD (Crucial Blast) This is the first Nadja album proper
to feature real drums rather than the trademark processed sound they
usually get from a machine. Also both Leah and Aidan play bass so the
rumble is lower and the ambience is less pretty, making for a more
outright stoner rock sound.
Robedoor "Endlessly
Blazing" LP (Woodsist) CA's
Robedoor are back with another doomed out K-hole. Slow creeping drones
building to some nice loner caveman pound/ real song territory.
Three tracks in just under 40 minutes. Edition of 500 with full color
jacket.
Rosenholm, Eleanoora "Vainajan
Muotokuva" CD (Fonal Finland) Debut album. Weird, almost avant
synth-pop harmonies with creepily-sweet Finnish vocals, sometimes
vocoded. Combining the best of karaoke-backed dance tracks with
propulsive '80s sheen and tastes of Bow Wow Wow / Lizzy Mercier
Descloux-esque tribe-pop irreverence.
Hip-Hop
Atmosphere "Sad Clown Bad
Winter Number 11" 12" (Rhymesayers) In stock.

Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold" LP (Rhymesayers) Now available on

2LP (Stones Throw / Now Again) This band (led by drummer Malcolm Catto)
are probably best known for having backed-up DJ Shadow on 'This Time I'm
Gonna Do It My Way' from his album
Madvillain "Madvillainy" LP
(Stones Throw) In stock on vinyl.
Sound Directions "From The Funky
Side of Life" Yesterday's New Quintet LP (Stones Throw) Loungy

Vast Aire "Dueces WIld" CD
(One Records) 3rd album from veteran MC of such great indy hip-hop acts

your momma didn't want you but you was still born."
Jazz
Dixon, Bill "17 Musicians in
Search of a Sound: Darfur" CD (Aum Fidelity) Trumpeter and
musical director Bill Dixon is one of the best and most overlooked and
underrated original musicians of our lifetime. Believe that.
Sun Ra "Sun Song" LP
(Delmark) This album was Sun Ra's first, originally released in 1957 on
Transition Records as Jazz by Sun Ra. Includes Sun Ra's original notes
and poetry, such as "Explanation of Compositions," "The
Techniques I Employ," and "Instructions to the Peoples of
Earth." Tracks include "Brainville," "Call For All
Demons," and "Transition."
Metal

Dream" 3LP (Southern Lord) Hi-fidelity live recordings of Boris as a
quartet w/ Merzbow. Limited edition of 1000 - packaged in a deluxe
die-cut gatefold jacket.
Burial Hex "Initiations" CD
Electronic noise, do you take black metal's hand in marriage? Yes, you
may now bite the bride's face.
Coffins "Buried
Death" CD (Southern Lord) Death metal from
Japan with a twist of sludge, but it's brought to you by Southern Lord so
do you really need to know more than that?
Cryptopsy "Unspoken King"
CD (Century Media) 6th full length of ferocious sensory assault from
these Canadian metalers.
Origin "Antithesis" CD
(Relapse) Super-technical progged out death metal. Their 4th and best
album so far.
Voivod "Killing Technology"
LP (Earmark) 3rd album, my favorite from them. Proggy metal.
Voivod "Rrroooaaarrr!" LP
(Earmark) Second album from the Canadian thrash metal/prog rock pioneers,
originally released in 1986. Features "Fuck Off And Die" and
"Slaughter In The Grave." The drummer's name is
"Away." Awesome.
Prog / Psych
Askew, Ed "Rainy Day
Song" CD (Spinning Gold Records) First release of new Ed Askew
material since Ask the Unicorn (ESP-Disk, 1968).
Fifty Foot Hose "Cauldron"
CD (Phoenix Records) Psychedelic rock band that formed in San Francisco
in the late 1960s, and reformed in the 1990s
Henske, Judy & Jerry Yester
"Farewell Aldebaran" CD (Phoenix Records) Jerry
Yester was the guy who replaced Zal Yanovsky in the Lovin' Spoonful. Judy
Henske was a folk star who had several of her own albums out. They made
this record together. Frank Zappa put it out on his label Straight. It is
very good and weird. Jerry Yester went on to produce the No Neck Blues
Band for John Fahey's Revenant record label in the late 90's.
Massiera, Jean-Pierre "Psychoses
- Discoid 1976" LP (Mucho Gusto) The mastermind behind Maledictus
Sound. Released in 1968 and just simply amazing.
May Blitz "The Second Of
May" CD (Akarma) A really great super-heavy psychedelic band, along
the lines of the Groundhogs. This is their very hard to find 2nd LP.
Reid, Terry "River" LP (4
Men With Beards) His third and most loosely creative record. Featuring
David Lindley (Kaleidoscope) on guitar and steel guitar, and Willie Bobo
on percussion. Lots of great weird experimentation with different
instruments in regards to the song structures. Unfortunately this
creative spark would eventually dwindle, as he only released a few more
albums after this.
Stack "Above All" CD (Gear
Fab) Ultra-rare 1968 album (only 10 copies are known to exist today) from
California hard rock band (they sound like a mix between The Who &
Big Brother & The Holding Co.) was recorded in the same studios where
Cream & Jimi Hendrix were putting down their finishing touches on
Goodbye and Electric Ladyland.
Dawn Of The Dead "OST" LP
(Dagored) Original soundtrack by Goblin, on vinyl again.
Soul / Funk
v/a "Eccentric Soul The Capsoul
Label" 2LP (Numero Group) Now on nice heavy vinyl, this
was the first release from Numero.
v/a "Eccentric Soul: The Tragar & Note
Labels" 2CD (Numero Group) This is the 20th release by
Numero, one of our favorites - 2 more discs worth of awesome forgotten
soul from twin labels out of Georgia run by one Jesse Jones. You can feel
the heat and humidity in the recordings, 50 songs all made in Atlanta
between 1968-1977.
Techno / Electronic
2562 "Aerial" 2LP
(Tectonic UK) Now on vinyl for all your dubstep spinning needs.
D. Gross All Night
"Synthetikit" 12" DJ from Dallas' new
12".
Haswell, Russell "Second Live
Salvage" 2LP (Editions Mego) Vinyl only on this one so far, Haswell
is probably my favorite laptop live show I've ever seen. He opened for
Autechre a few years ago and the extreme sonic variety induced
synaesthesia and hallucinations. In other words awesome beyond belief.
Machine Fabriek + Stephen Vitiello
"Box Music" CD (12K) They sent each other
small boxes of random objects to use as sound sources for compositions,
then traded back and forth until an album emerged. Unique and
surprisingly melodic.
Schaefer, Janek "Extended Play
(Triptych for the child survivors of war and conflict)" CD (Line)
Chamber-like compositions inspired by child holocaust survivors, somber
and haunting yet beautiful circular patterns and layers.
World - Brazil
Regina, Elis "The Voice Of
Brazil" CD (El UK) The Voice of Brazil combines Elis Regina's
masterful 1968 LP, Elis, Como e Porque (Elis, How and Why) with
recordings made a year later in London where Menescal teamed with Peter
Knight (of Moody Blues fame)
Tamba Trio "The Miraculous Tamba
Trio" CD ( l UK) Propelled by the extraordinary piano playing and
arranging skills of Luiz Eca, Tamba Trio are characterized by their very
original and highly attractive blending of left field Bossa grooves and
almost sacred vocal harmonies. Our programme concentrates on the years
between 1962-66
Print
Candy & Cigarettes #1
Really really cool new zine, featuring awesome drawings, comics and short
stories by mostly local artists (I think). As soon as I saw the extreme
detail of the front cover drawing I knew it was a labor of love, well
worth a few bucks.
Decibel Aug 2008 Rob Halford (Judas
Priest) on the cover.
Wire #292 July 2008 Mark Stewart on
the cover to discuss his latest activities, also features trumpet genius
Bill Dixon, The Necks, SND, and way more.

Children of the Sixth Foot Race
"Songs From the Source" CD (Drag City) The Source
Family was the hippie commune that Father Yod or "Yahowa" was

Hip-Hop
Bun B "II Trill" CD
(Rap-A-Lot) Hell yeah, dirty south forever. RIP Pimp C and UGK, but
honestly I've always liked Bun B better and this album definitely does
not disappoint. No real standout radio tracks, which in this case I think
is all the better because it flows so well from one great production to
another.

languished in undeserved obscurity ever since. Produced in L.A. by
legendary engineer Bill Halverson (Crosby, Stills & Nash, Cream, the
Grateful Dead), it's heavily imbued with West Coast influences and
features superb musical interplay throughout. The band supported acts

psychedelia, makes its long-awaited vinyl reissue debut here.

spirituality.
Soul / Funk / Latin
Ayers, Roy "Stoned Soul

Axelrod.

12" (Rephlex UK) 2 heavy Euro-disco tracks originally released on
Out Records way back in 1978, plus a remix.

Boy) Breathtaking sophomore release spearheaded by Shara Worden.
Charming, playful, daring, foreboding, graceful, and eclectic, a musical
snowglobe that sparkles each time you touch it. Features over 20 players
adding their little pieces to the sound.
Gas "Nah Und Fern" 4CD
(Kompakt) OMG, some of the best and way out of print techno ever made
finally available again. aka Wolfgang Voigt, all four discs here are
completely essential and on a par with any of the best Chain Reaction
albums.
Head Like a Kite "There Is Loud
Laughter Everywhere" CD (Mush) Their 2nd full-length. A blend of
electronic rock and pop-songcraft built on a bed of pillaged found-sound
from cities the band visited on their 2006 US tour.
Hobbs, Mary-Anne
"Evangeline" CD (Planet Mu) Actually a BBC1 DJ mix of grime and
dubstep, featuring exclusives from Boxcutter, Wiley, Pinch, Shackleton,
Darqwan, and other bright stars on the London scene.
Jammer "Are You Dumb? Volume
3" CD (Neckle Records UK) Grime... grime, everywhere grime.
It's evolved and reproducing at an alarming rate.
Kano "MC No. 1" CD (Neckle
Records UK) Extreme energetic British rap. We were confused at first
because the copies we get say "Promotional use only" on the
back so we thought they sent us promos. Actually all copies have to say
that because apparently there was no effort made to clear the samples
used. Guerilla style!
Minilogue "Animals" 2CD
(Cocoon)
Smith N Hack "Tribute" 2LP
(Smith N Hack Germany) Twelve tracks of disco cutups based around the
catalog of Hamilton Bohannon
v/a "Steppas' Delight Vol.

mostly focusing on early pioneering productions.
Venetian Snares
"Detrimentalist" CD/2LP (Planet Mu) Latest studio album from
Venetian Snares with beats that shoot thick and sticky. BTW - Venetian
Snares is playing tonight at Elysium with Otto Von Schriach.

/ Sorrow Tears and Blood" CD (Wrasse) Some of Fela's most serious
recordings. Done right after the first in a series of raids on his
home.
Nath Family "Sounds of the
Indian Snake Charmer" CD (Hanson Records) This is exactly what it
sounds like and better. Recorded with a directional stereo mic so you get
to imagine yourself as the snake being charmed!
Shankar, Ananda "Missing
You" LP (Fallout UK) Previously reissued on CD by Fallout, now
issued on deluxe LP format as well; 180 gram pressing. Ananda Shankar is
now firmly established as a pioneer of sitar funk, fusing the musical
traditions of his homeland with a solid rock and roll influence but he
also worked in the classical idiom, as the elegiac Missing You
(originally released in 1977 and dedicated to his late father)
demonstrates. Originally released in India only, this is the first vinyl
reissue of this superb album.

on Cage's performance.
Grizzly
(1976) DVD Man, what do you know about Grizzly?
Great horror movie about a Grizzly bear attacking people from underrated
genius director William Girdler. Featuring Andrew Prine (Simon King Of
The Witches, Centerfold Girls, Barn Of the Naked Dead) as a forest ranger
tracking the beast. From 1976, right after Girdler had directed "Day
Of The Animals". This guy hated humans.
Joy Division
DVD (Weinstein Company) A
documentary of this influential and legendary band which inlcudes
interviews with all the surviving members, Tony Wilson, Peter Seville,
and others. Scattered throughout are live clips, TV spots, and more. As
an old timer ,all I can say is that this film brought all those times and
memories roaring back.
Shaolin Vs Vampire DVD Starring
Gordon Liu who was awesome in pretty much every Shaw Brothers movie he
graced, and that was a lot. But be warned that this movie is early '80s
and shot on video. There's still some pretty wacked out, though often
cheesy, effects and stunts.
Wilson, Gary "You Think You
Really Know Me: The Gary Wilson Story" DVD+CD (Plexifilm) Finally
available, I've been a huge fan of Gary since they reissued the album of
the same title back in early 2000-ish. Mixing what archive footage exists
from 1977 with new interviews of Gary and his various female muses, plus
the original Blind Date band members. Completely awesome, and you get the
CD as a bonus.

schizophrenic lo-fi opus.
Stewart, Mark "Edit"
CD/2LP (Crippled Dick Hot Wax) Yep, only his 7th full length in 25
years of solo work post-Pop Group. This is still basically a Mafia album,
with Adrian Sherwood, Keith LeBlanc, Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, and
even a guest appearance from Ari Up of the Slits. 11 concise and intense
tracks of polemic funk, just as amazing as ever.
Sunset "The Glowing City"

"Bright Blue Dream"
Supergrass "Diamond Hoo Ha"

Experimental / Composers
Bianchi, Maurizio
"Erimos" CD (Digitalis) The 1st in a series of works about the
spaces "between the elements." Contains a single, 40+ minute
exploration. Bianchi is joined by 2 of the next generation of Italian
sound sculptors, Hue (aka Matteo Uggeri) & Fhievel (aka Luca
Bergero).
Burning Star Core
"Challenger" LP (Hospital Productions) Challenger is a direct
solo composition of C. Spencer Yeh. This recording is perhaps Yeh's most
revealing, unguarded work. Challenger is a composed work, not an
improvisation, with each piece revolving around a central melodic theme,
featuring field recordings, which serve as an audio diary.
Lauten, Elodie "Death Of Don
Juan" CD (Unseen Worlds) CD debut of this 1985 post-minimal landmark
by Elodie Lauten. Originally self-produced and released as a small LP
edition on her own label. Features performances by Arthur Russell and

psychedelia.
Paavoharju "Laulu Laakson

and Olli Ainala.
Hip-Hop
Brand New Heavies "Heavy
Rhyme Experience, Vol. 1" CD (Delicious Vinyl) The only really great
album from this Brit funk band from the early 90's, featuring a wide
range of MCs - Guru, Grand Puba, Kool G Rap, Ed OG, Pharcyde.
Jazz
v/a "Hear, O Israel: A Prayer
Ceremony In Jazz" (Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Grady
Tate, etc.) CD (Trunk UK) Another lost gem unearthed by collector
Jonny Trunk. Featuring Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Ron Carter and others.
Metal
Behexen "My Soul For His
Glory" CD (Moribund) Barbaric, brutal black metal, militantly
throbbing but with sepulchral dynamics to spare, as they often take
down-tempo detours dripping with evil atmosphere – into the tombs.
Graveland "Drunemeton" CD
Originally from 1992, filled with absolute passion and disgust, this
truly paved the way for the Polish black metal underground.
Nachtmystium "Assassins: Black
Meddle Part 1" CD (Century Media) Latest trip into an abyss, this is
technically of the genre known as American "Paradoxical Black
Metal!"
Roller, The "s/t" CD
(Monofonus) Local doomy sludge rock of a very high order. This is their
debut, 6 tracks of sonic arson. And it's packaged with a book by Rebecca
Bengal and a special fold out sleeve. Super cool.
Wold "Stratification" CD
(Profound Lore) SO incredibly bleak sounding I don't even know what else
to say, darker than dark blackness from Canada that could just as easily
be early '90s Norway.
Prog / Psych
Agamenon "Todos rien de mi" CD/LP (Guerssen Spain) Rare psychedelic rock album recorded in
Spain in the 1970's. This hippie group from Madrid, originally released
this in 1975 on the Explosion label. This first ever reissue comes with
an insert, with pictures and info about the band, plus a repro of a very
rare band poster.
Arktis "More Arktis Tapes"
CD (Garden Of Delights) One of my all time favorite psychedelic rock
bands. More than seventy minutes of jams, and the occasional song or two
from the same sessions that produced the band’s second LP. This is
primarily a vehicle for Klaus Blachut to wail endlessly on the guitar.
‘Highlands’ is seven minutes of twin-guitar bliss, (presumably Blachut
dubbed over himself). Every song is amazing. Recommended.
Broughton, Edgar "Edgar
Broughton Band" CD (EMI UK) Reissue of the third Edgar Broughton
Band album. Sometimes similar sounding to Gong. A little bit spacier than
any of the other records.
Broughton, Edgar "In Side
Out" CD (EMI UK) Their fourth and most experimental album from
1972.
Broughton, Edgar "Keep Them
Freaks A Rollin" CD (EMI UK) Recorded live in front of an audience
at Abbey Road, 1969.
Broughton, Edgar "Sing Brother
Sing" CD (EMI UK) British blues-rockers sophomore album, originally
released in 1970. Like Beefheart at times, but definitely it's own
sound.
Broughton, Edgar "Wasa
Wasa" CD (EMI UK) This record rocks very hard. This is their first
record originally on Harvest, from 1969.
Cantilo, Miguel Y Grupo Sur
"s/t" LP (Guerssen Spain) Argentinian Miguel Cantilo joined a
hippie commune in the fall of 1972, where he wrote many songs together
with Kubero Diaz (member of La Pesada, and key figure in La Cofradia de
la Flor Solar); the result was incredible hard-psychedelia and a slight
folk flavor at times. This is no doubt one of the best Argentinian
psychedelic rock records of the 70's. This is its first vinyl reissue;
the sound has been taken from original master-tapes, comes in a gatefold
cover; limited to 500 copies.”
Cooper, Alice "Easy Action"
CD (Rhino Encore) This is one of the weirdest rock records of the 60's
hands down. Like a mixture of Black Sabbath, Captain Beefheart, and Dr.
John. This record is essential.
Ejwuusl Wessahyqqan "s/t"
CD (Garden Of Delights) Out of the same community of artists in Munich
that included Amon Dntal, bridging
psychedelic, hard-rock and fusion, being variably comparable to Gomorrah,
Thirsty Moon and other such bands.
Missus Beastly "S/T, 1970"
CD (Garden Of Delights) The screeching guitar intro tells you instantly
where you're at. Or so you'd think. The guitar is replaced by backwards
played vocals and then the first track is suddenly over. What comes next
is some of the dirtiest blues rock with a Krautrock edge you’ll ever
find. Full of guitar solos and a spaced out feeling, this album sounds
like these guys could hammer this stuff out day and night and never get
tired. As it happens, tracks are split between heavy guitar numbers and
jazz-styled noodling with flute and bongos as well as some cool
jazz-guitar solos.
Missus Beastly "S/T, 1974 + 4
Bonus Tracks" CD (Garden Of Delights) There once was an issue on the
Germanofon label, with three "bonus tracks" but by another
band. This legitimate release has now four true bonus tracks (three of
them live in Minden 1974, the last one from the ultra rare festival LP
"Open air concert Vlotho-Winterberg 1975"). The CD is taken
from the master tapes.
Morpheus "Rabenteuer" CD
(Garden Of Delights) From Warburg, Germany - progressive jazz-rock
without vocals. Formed from the former band Opossum, founded in 1971.
Strange, spaced-out, and absolutely perfect.
Perhacs, Linda
"Parallelograms" LP (Guerssen Spain) One of the best
psychedelic folk albums of all time. Originally released on Kapp in 1970,
Wild Places released it on CD a few years ago. This beauty was reissued
on vinyl a few years ago in Korea as well, in a 500 piece limited
pressing that sold out instantly….and we believe this one MUST be
available unlimited so here we come with a gorgeous, tremendous sounding
reissue of the legendary album plus 2 bonus tracks (exactly like the
Korean release), a poster and an insert.”
Shiver "Walpurgis" CD
(Garden Of Delights) Official reissue of the one and only album (1969) by
Swiss underground cult legends; a heavy album, covering a variety of
crude and sloppy psychedelic styles, and one of the rarest in the world,
thanks very much in part to its sinister and sexually explicit H. R Giger
cover; this issue has three bonus tracks, two from a rare compilation LP,
and one from an even rarer split single from 1968.
Tapiman "S/T" CD (Guerssen
Spain) Only album from this underground hard-rocking power trio from
Spain. Tapiman was a short-lived group that featured Max Sunyer on guitar
(later in Iceberg), and Tapi on drums (just after leaving Maquina). The
CD contains the complete album plus four bonus tracks from the band’s
singles, two of these tracks have never been available on CD before
now.
Third Estate "Years Before the
Wine” / Agonistes
"s/t" 2CD (Lion Productions) This is an
ambitious and intricate psychedelic concept album from 1976. Stark,
intimate production, with tasty fuzz guitar, backwards tape-loop
soundscapes and beautiful treated acoustic guitar. Double disc package
includes a 28-page color booklet, with histories of both groups
Thor's Hammer "S/T" CD
(Garden Of Delights) Danish band’s Metronome album (1971), with long
tracks with killer wah-wah guitars, swirling organs, wild vocals and
twisted psychedelic sax-breaks.
Truck "Surprise, Surprise"
CD/LP (Guerssen Spain) Limited reissue of the sole album by this
mysterious early 70's band from Malaysia. It was featured in the last
Hans Pokora ''Collector Dreams'' book, causing a big stir in the psych
collecting circles, as original copies are nowhere to be found. Kind of
like Malaysian Bee Gees with far away synth sounds.
Virus "Remember" CD (Garden
Of Delights) Live show from 1973, that features tracks from both albums
by these Krautrock legends. Virus, along with Gila, were the German bands
of the era most capable in their best moments of pushing Pink Floyd
space-rock into another dimension.
Reggae / Dub
Jah Batta "Informer"
12" (Wackie's Germany) Oh yeah, it's Wackie's so you know it's
great. Awesome production, high quality rhythms and dubby dancehall
riddim.
Scientist "At The Controls Of
Dub: Rare Dubs 1979-1980" CD (Jamaican Recordings UK) If that title
doesn't make you salivate a little then I don't know what to tell you.
Soul / Funk / Latin
Alexandria, Lorez "For
Swingers Only" CD (Dusty Groove) Amazing Chess records session by
this amazing singer with a group led by John Young on piano, and also
featuring George Eskirdge on guitar, Jimmy Garrison on bass, Phil Thomas
on drums, and Ronald Wilson on flute and tenor.
Chuito & the Latin Uniques
"From the Streets: Rare Grooves" CD (Fania) Amazing Latin soul
album from the late 60's originally on the Speed label.
Colon, Johnny y su Orchestra
"Boogaloo Blues" CD (Fania) Amazing early sessions by this
master of Latin funk.
v/a "Bad Boogaloo: The Nu Yorican Sounds
1966-1970" CD (Fania) Great compilation of tracks
covering the rise of Boogaloo in New York in the late 60's.
Kuti, Fela "Ikoyi Blindness /
Kalakuta Show" CD (Wrasse) Seriously funky era Fela with some extra
crazy guitars on these two. From 1975-76.
Techno / Electronic
2562 "Aerial" CD
(Tectonic UK) The new bright light on the dubstep scene... actually this
one is only half dubstep, with a heavy emphasis on mid-90s style idm
techno. Very fresh and clean.
Appleblim "Dubstep Allstars Vol.
6" CD (Tempa UK) The essential dubstep educational series from scene
leaders Tempa continues with it's deepest installment to date courtesy of
in-house A+R man, Skull Disco co-owner and righteous DJ, Appleblim.
Digital Mystikz "Misty Winter /
Conference" 12" (Soul Jazz) This is the first of two 12’s from
South London’s premier dub-step team.
Digital Mystikz "Walkin' With
Jah / Earth A Run Red" 12" (Soul Jazz) Otherwise known as Mala
and Coki, Digital Mystikz hail from Norwood in South London. Their
alternately militant and melodic releases on their own DMZ as well as
Soul Jazz Records, Rephlex and many more put Digital Mystikz in a league
of their own - as do their solo recordings as Mala and Coki for numerous
labels and their legendary DMZ club-nights. They are the dons of
Dubstep!
Hercules and Love Affair "Blind
Remixes" 12" (DFA) UK-only issue of remixes, on DFA/EMI.
"Blind" features guest vocals from Antony.
Ital Tek "Cyclical" CD/LP
(Planet Mu) More high quality dark and atmospheric dubstep from Planet
Mu. I am very impressed with their recent output, emphasizing the
evolution of drum & bass and garage to dubstep.
Modell, Rod "Sacred Geometry
EP" 12" (Echocord Germany) A bit more dance oriented than his
recent album, these 4 tracks are originally from 2004. Detroit dubby
house at its finest.
Orb, The "The Dream" CD
(Six Degrees) Bask in the glory of the classic era of techno, for their
new album the Orb returns to a very 1993 sound with great results.
Features Steve Hillage on guitar for about half the tracks, plus many
vocals bouncing around in the mix.
Quantec "Moonstruck"
12" (Echochord Germany) Yet another super high quality production
from the Deepchord / Echospace camp, this one's heavy and dancey.
Sebastian "Motor Momy Army"
12" (Because Music France) Three tracks, all killer dancefloor
burners.
Styrofoam "A Thousand
Words"CD (Nettwerk) One of his brightest and most melodically pretty
albums with vocal contributions from Blake Hazard, Jimmy Eat
World's Jimmy Adkins, and Josh Rouse.

Ceremony In Jazz" (Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Grady
Tate, etc.) LP (Trunk UK) Another lost gem unearthed by collector
Jonny Trunk. Featuring Herbie Hancock, Thad Jones, Ron Carter and
others. CD arriving next week.
Metal
Ascend "Ample Fire
Within" CD (Southern Lord) aka Greg Anderson (of SunnO))),
Goatsnake, Engine Kid) and Gentry Densley. It's definitely the usual
Southern Lord aesthetic of dark drone rock, but there's good use of
electronics and processed vocals so it stands out as better than average.
High praise indeed.
Harvey Milk "Life... The Best
Game in Town" CD (Hydra Head) I accidentally saw this band during
SXSW this year, they were awesome and after they left someone told me
that it was Joe Preston's band. So no wonder they kicked ass.
Opeth "Still Life" 2CD 5.1
mix CD (Snapper) Reissue of their 1999 album in which they really started
getting more progged out. I don't know what the 5.1 mix sounds like but
it's one of their best recordings either way.

Ayers, Kevin "Hyde Park Free
Concert 1970" CD (United States of Distribution) Amazingly good
fidelity for a live set from an outdoor show in 1970. Featuring the
all-star lineup of Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt, Mike Oldfield, Lol Coxhill,
and David Bedford. The band plays really fast throughout the set and
almost sounds like some sort of embryonic punk band. Recommended.
Frith, Fred "Gravity" CD
(Fred Records) Reissue of his first solo album for the Ralph record label
from 1980.
Geesin, Ron "Biting the
Hand" 2CD (Hux Records) Ron Geesin is the guy who helped do a lot of

of early radio sessions, mostly bizarro spoken word and folk-ish songs
with some musique concrete and other tape experiments. I love it, but I
don't know why exactly.
