Radiophonic Workshop "The Seasons" CD (Trunk UK) Now in stock on CD and more vinyl copies. Originally issued in 1969, The Seasons has become almost mythical over the last few years. With its mix of unexpected electronics, percussion, tape manipulation and austere poetry, it sounds like no other.
Wishart, Trevor "Fanfare & Contrapunctus / Imago" LP (Pan UK) 2 sidelong pieces from this amazing electro-acoustic composer from Leeds, England. The first is from 1976 and sounds like a choir of french horns slowly being fed into a turbine, while the 2nd side is from 2002 and uses only a single sound of a glass clinking as source material.

Pumice "PUNY" CD (Soft Abuse Modern) Kiwi noise-pop auteur
Sex Bruises & Dakota Hogback CD (Instincto Records) 6 lengthy and complex tracks of mostly synth-based noise and quite a few moments of actual prettiness. Alternating between harsh and blurry rhythmic industrial styles. Highly recommended for those with the right fortitude.
Shit Creek "Pissing Blood" 7"
Vatican Shadow "Kneel Before Religious Icons" LP (Type UK) Limited edition LP by Dominick Fernow of Prurient. Revolving around themes gleaned from Iraq war propaganda and yellowing stacks of newspaper clippings, the tracks on Kneel Before Religious Icons are a perfect representation of Fernow's modus operandi. Behind a wall of tape hiss, drum machine rhythms beat out memories of early Ministry and AFX while sickly FM synthesizer pads crawl and heave into the abyss.

World
Bola "Volume 7" CD/2LP (Awesome Tapes From Africa) Following last year's Na Wa Doumbia LP this is the second in what we hope will be a long series of reissues. Where the first one was fairly airy and female led, this one is more masculine and almost sounds like early dancehall rhythms, though without the use of any electronics. 8 long-ish tracks and not a moment that isn't pretty damn great.
Faited, Thonghuad "Diew Sor Isan" LP (EM Records Japan) Solo and group recordings featuring violin playing in the "molam" style of Thai music. It's considered country music but as always with Thai culture there is a certain funkiness in the playing, even when the music remains similar to Indian carnatic. In other words, beautiful + fun.
